Jennifer and Dustin got married at the Hilton Hotel Waterfront Resort in Huntington Beach. A beautiful location literally a hop and a skip away from the beach. It's beautiful! So why did I title this post "My Faux Cousin..." well Dustin's last name is Sy...same as mine. I first designed his older sisters wedding a few years ago and we always considered ourselves as family. So now their little brother is getting married to a beautiful woman :0) I love this couple and had such a great time planning their florals etc. Hope you all enjoy the images below...taken with my brand spankin' new camera!

Key West

Oh Key West....You are absolutely amaze-ah-balls :0)

Today is my last day in this little piece of paradise and I'm braving the flight back to Cali tomorrow afternoon. My little get away is short but sweet. You need more than 2 full days here!! Upon arrival my friend and I immediately went to grad these delicious Chocolate covered keylime pies on a stick!! A delightful treat for sure...needless to say I had a sugar high for a good few hours after that. A lovely dinner at The Rum Barrel Delicious yummilicious scrumpdillioucious! This place is a must :0)

Yesterday we went snorkeling, jet skiing and a relaxing bbq for dinner! Gracious host at a lovely home off the ocean with a 40ft boardwalk (picture above) So much fun and I pretty much passed out after dinner, wine and dessert :0)

The weather here is pretty warm and pretty humid... mid 80's all day! Tons of beautiful lush shruberry, plants and trees. Tropical heaven!

I can't wait to go back to this place and shooting for a week long vacation!

So remember my post last year Si no aguantas el calor, sal de la cocina ? This wedding is her bestfriends wedding :0) First of all I had such a great time planning this wedding with the Bride, I love her to pieces and I love her family! Everyone looked absolutely beautiful the day of it was unreal... I, on the other hand, looked like crap as I always do during wedding set-ups...

Second, the venue was at The St. Regis in Dana Point. Oh yeah, she fancy huh! Everyone was super nice and helpful. I rolled in with my screeching Volvo (something was wrong with my struts or shock absorber or something like that...eh) and I was treated as if I was driving a Bentley. So St. Regis...you get an A+!

Third (what's with the count down?) Talk about fabulous vendors that worked on this wedding! Annette Hoegner of A Classic Touch Events kept everything organized and made the day through evening flow smoothly. Ridiculously awesome photographer Cean Orrett of Cean One Photography captured every flawless detail... Cean, my apologies for these atrocious pictures of mine, I just can't wait to show this wedding off! Needless to say I can not wait to see the professional images!!!

So here are the said photo's...I'm horrible at editing pictures nor do I have the patience. I need to figure out a faster way to upload, annotate and edit pictures...suggestions?

Happy 4th of July everyone!!! I know the image above is not very Americana-ish...I was searching for a red white and blue anything in my arsenal of pictures but I failed so you get a bright and sunny arrangement fitting for the heat that we've been (enjoying?) lately. Needless to say, I'm sporting a very chic farmers tan and I'm almost to the point of dehydration. Ahhhh the joys of summer.

There have been LOTS of good stuff happening at Brassavolas lately that I haven't had time to blog anything!!!

First off we were fortunate enough to participate in an episode of WE TV's 'I do over' with Diann Valentine :0) Talk about chic! I'll post pictures once I unearth them from my phone. Here's the teaser: I DO OVER so watch out for it! I think we're at the last episode. Air date to follow.

Second... We are moving!!! Our new studio is in the process of getting it's hair and nails did! Target opening is September! Stay tuned... in the mean time we are still at our old studio in Chino slowly but surely cleaning, packing and taking lots of allergy drugs.

Finally...Colors!

Finally I narrowed down my choice in colors for my studio. I decided to keep everything very neutral with pops of colors that I can change out season to season. I will be starting with this fabulous Orange for Spring or yellow...depending on my mood. The best part about this color scheme is that I can add whatever color I want and it will go with the neutral colors of the walls and fabric.

I can't wait to get started! Will post pics soon. I'm setting a deadline for myself...March 20th!

Color Trends 2010

Are you having a hard time deciding what colors to choose for your wedding flowers, invitations, linens, Bridesmaids dresses etc.??? Well Pantone, the worlds leading color expert, came out with the colors above. Thanks to my dear friend Joanna of LOTUSHAUS Fabulous isn't it...perfect timing since I've been pondering as to what colors I should choose for my consultation room. Here are some before pictures...

The chairs have great potential...I just need to strip the horrible "white wash" on them. Mother won't be happy about this!

yeah...so as you can tell, it's a hot mess of flowers! Summer is coming so there won't be any flowers displayed which will free up some room. The wall color at the moment is a weird puke/celery green :o). I was hoping to paint the chairs in a glossy black but laziness kicked in high gear so I just left it. The rest of the studio's wall color is a beautiful grayish green or "Celadon" so I'm thinking of painting it a very neutral milky latte and hoping I could find a decent paint stripper for the furniture (any suggestion?) The wood is a beautiful Oak, I think, and would love to expose that and give it a clear matt finish. OY! "Woe to me"...(quoting Aunt. Voula from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.)

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated :o)

Saturday, February 13th is the day Ashely and Adam got married. I love this couple for their bold choice in color and their personality is just fun! Most of all...I love it when they trust me to just go do my "thang" and make the creative choices to pull the wedding together. It was such a pleasure designing this wedding, despite the fact that it was also Valentines weekend! Thankfully (or not) us members of the Lonely Hearts Club don't have to worry about planning anything for that special someone. What I ended up doing is making the fabulous floral arrangements for them lovers out there...check out our Floral Gifts page!

Me and the Beautiful Bride!

Saturday...two pink weddings...one tired designer

So this past weekend, I literally was seeing the world in a rosy hue! Two weddings with the same tone of pink but interpreted in a different direction.

One was held at the Cocopalms in Pomona, lovely place, lovely food! The color scheme was Gray, Blush and White. We designed the aisle way with a fabulous Gray aisle runner and blush rosepetals. Decorated the trees with a gray fabric and two manzanita trees with blush and white flowers.

Wedding #2 was held at St. Paul Church in Chino Hills (where I go for Sunday mass) and the reception at Sheraton in Pomona. The color scheme for this one was Blush Pink, Wine and Creme. The Bride who will remain nameless :0) passed out in the middle of the ceremony...I always tell my clients to eat a good breakfast and keep eating small snacks or meals during the day and DON'T FORGET to hydrate yourself with water!!!!

All in all she made it to the reception and was totally fine before the ceremony ended. Hope ya'll enjoy the pictures below...don't forget to leave your comments!!! I love reading them.

Well folks, looks like we made it through 2009 alive! Hope everyone had a wonderful New Years Eve celebration. I am watching the Rose Parade on TV right now and the flowers and other organic materials they used on the floats are absolutely marvelous! I'm kind of bummed that these floats are not environmentally friendly. There should be a "Green" Parade Float company.

The bouquet above just reminded me of the feeling I had this morning...fresh, renewed awareness and infinite possibilities for the new year. I'm not a big "Resolution" kind of guy but there are some things that I'd like to improve. I'll strive to blog more often, eat healthier and treasure my family and friends.

I wish you all a prosperous, healthy and fabulous New Year!

What an open house!!! Held at the fabulous Richard Nixon Library in Yorba Linda. The main ballroom consisted of pristine white walls, Gold & Tangerine window drapes, four exquisite fireplace and three magnificent crystal chandeliers! If you are searching for a venue give Carrie and Laura a call. I am very honored to be one of the florists on their Preferred Vendor List.

The color scheme for this open house was obviously RED! I designed some variations of tall centerpieces which was very well received.

It was also nice to see Eddie from Tasteful Cakes...it's been a couple of years since last I saw him! His cakes are absolutely gorgeous. I've seen A LOT of cakes in my career and his attention to detail is just unmatched.

Don't you just love January 1st...I really don't consider it a "Fresh Start" more like a signal that the Holidays are over and the Fun starts in the Flower World! January is such a great month to gear up for the coming Wedding Season (ours officially starts in April!) then you have Valentines Day in February 14th (Saturday) Bridal Shows are peppered in between these months.

Our first Bridal Show of the year is this coming Sunday at the Double Tree Hotel in Ontario.

As I was stalking Sarah's Blog of Saipua I was absolutely enamoured by this wedding that she designed the flowers for. Here are some snippets of the fabulous wedding and you can view more on Robert Sukrachand's blog and website. I love Robert's point of view...he captured each image with such precise artistry. Viewing the images gave me a such a comfortable feeling (Which is weird when attending a wedding...) as if I was there chillin' with my homies and homegirls. This wedding didn't require thousands of Roses from Ecuador or hand beaded invitation or custom designed table linens. Just a simple dress, good company and interesting personal touches. I'm in love with the mustache on a stick!!!! Enjoy!

So while doing a walk through with my client a couple of weeks ago at the LA Arboretum I was almost to tears when I saw this sculpture in person! I read about Patrick Dougherty via my friends blog Housemartin. This sculpture is unbelievable in person considering it's all hand made!!! If you are planning a trip to the Arboretum with the family consider going to "Meadow Brook" and thats where this is located.

I attended the Ceremony Magazine annual party last night and had a fabulous time! One of the highlights was running into Justin Prietto who used to manage Duxbury's Catering and he has informed me that he started his own catering company! Huntington Catering Company features innovative and down right delicious food. An added bonus is that Justin and his staff is such a pleasure to work with. Huntington Catering Co. is based in Pasadena and travels to events all over Southern California.

Adamson House - Malibu

Sunday, August 31st was when Rachel Rosenbaum and Gil Segal got married! The couple resides in New York but fell in love with this California Gem...The Adamson House. Not for a quick recap...it's been 6 years since the last wedding I designed for this venue so needless to say It was quite a reunion. The color scheme was Charcoal and Beet. With the help of Wedding Planner extraordinnaire Stephanie Lairson We used Charcoal Linens paired with modern black chairs. The floral arrangements were housed in a Mercury finished ceramic boxes (It looked like antique mirrors...fab!) Orchids and Dahlias were the prominent florals used accented with Modern sculptures of Mahogany Ti-Leafs. The couple chose an immaculate color palette of Whites for the ceremony. During the months of planning Gil actually called me to arrange a floral delivery for Rachel in New York! Good thing I have mad connections in the floral industry and was able to send Rachel a fabulous birthday bouquet. These two are such a pleasure to work with and I am very honored to have witnessed the ceremony (while waiting to breakdown the chuppah!!!)

[ Peach . Ivory . Grey ]

A new twist on Peach weddings! I absolutely love this composition of my friend Pam from Ink and Peat in Portland, Oregon. Peach and Ivory Garden Roses, Peach Ranunculus, Silver Berzillia and Dusty Miller are the florals used in this bouquet. How fabulous!!!

[ Burgundy . Mustard . Cream ]

For Brides planning a Fall wedding, consider this color scheme! It's not your typical "Fall" colors, it's a little more mature and sophisticated. The addition of the brown flax leaf loops adds interest. This bouquet is accented with scented geraniums and liquid amber leafs.

[ Jade . Sage . White ]

Such an interesting twist on the classic "All White" Wedding. Adding Sage or Jade to a white bouquet adds freshness and texture. Roses, Hydrangeas, Cymbidium Orchids, Lysimachia, Mini Calla Lily, Lisianthus and Stephanotis are the florals used.

[ Tiffany Blue . Tangerine ]

A complimentary color scheme! Tangerine LA Hybrid Lily, "Mambo" Spray Roses, Orange Alstroemerias and Mango mini Calla lIly are the florals used. The Tiffany Blue is introduce by the ribbon wrapped on the handle. Don't do "Tiffany Blue Flowers" ladies, it looks tacky! Introduce Tiffany Blue in ribbons, papers or even candles!

[ Mahogany . Burgundy . Eggplant ]

For the Brides that wants drama! I suggest walking down the aisle with this bouquet! Black Baccara Roses, Black Magic Roses, Eggplant Mini Calla Lily and Mahogany Ti-Leafs are the florals used in this bouquet. Gone are the days of Black, White and Red color scheme...honey, it's too harsh! Instead of black pair it with Mahogany for a more chic look!

These are just some of my favorite color schemes at the moment. Hope this helps to the undecided Bride. Figure out your favorite color and do it on purpose! Call us and schedule your consultation we'd love to hear of your color choice and we can guide you to what's fabulous!

Watch out Chino Hills, we're moving in!!! Are you ready?!

We are moving our floral studio to the City of Chino at the corner of Roswell Ave. and Schaefer across the street from Shima Japanese Restaurant.

We should be fully operational September 1st. I will post the new address soon. Our phone numbers will remain the same. Our new place is an industrial space perfect for Weddings and Event production, we can also entertain walk-ins. So if you need to pick up a bouquet on the way home or to the office we got them and they look fabulous! We also service the same delivery areas. I can't wait for you all to see it!

Twin Peaks Ranch Wedding

I had the wonderful opportunity to design a wedding in which the brides aesthetic matched my own perfectly! It was such a pleasure designing this wedding in Ojai and the couple was a delight! Thanks to BB Photography for the wonderful images. The bride wanted her arrangements to be woodland, herbs and foliage with her favorite White Sweetpeas. Her bouquet consisted of dried mushrooms, dusty miller, rosemary, sweetpeas, clematis and hanging amaranthus. Doesn't she look stunning!

I am in the process of updating my website with lots of goodies from this years events and should be up and running fabulously January of 2009! This is just a sneak peak.

June 7th 2008 was the day Sarah and Joe got married! Sarah and Joe are my beloved corporate clients. When they informed me that they were getting married I was absolutely thrilled and excited for them! Sarah loved the color purple and Joe love Sarah! Her bouquet was an elaborate composition of Cymbidium Orchids in Pale Pink, White and Soft Green. The centerpieces were made of Hydrangeas, Thai and Hawaiian Dendrobium orchids, Spirea, Curly Willow branches and Large Monsterra Leafs. I had such a fabulous time designing this event and I cannot wait till I get my hands on the pro-pictures. This will be featured on next website update.

One of my favorite color scheme of Green and Brown with a little Vietnamese twist! The Bride and Groom was such a delight to work with! They pretty much gave me creative freedom to design their flowers. I love mixing classic flowers like Phaloenopsis orchids, parrot tulips, hydrangeas, calla lily and peony with unusual elements like seed pods and tropical foliage. The Bridesmaids was wearing a vietnamese inspired couture and carried bouquet with fresh lotus pods, green spider chrysanthemum and orchids. What an absolutely stunning composition!

Earth Day - April 22nd

Earth day is April 22nd and now more than ever is the perfect time to be aware of the effects of consumer waste to the environment. We at Brassavolas Floral Couture are passionate about recycling. We re-use all packaging materials to "cushion" floral arrangements during delivery. Excess water from our cooler are used to fill buckets for foliage and to water plants.
Everyday our employees carpool to reduce carbon monoxide emissions. Delivery routes are planned carefully to save gas and time. All of the containers used in weddings or events are returned to us for use in another event. Floral foam is not biodegradable so we use it judiciously.

As florist we work with natures beauty everyday and we believe that we should be the ambassadors in preserving our natural resources and the environment.

I got so excited when an email from one of my favorite Brides from May 2007 letting me know that her fabulous wedding celebration got published!!! Bridal Guide March/April 2008.

Four pages of fabulous images.

Kayo looked so beautiful on that day her dress was flawless flown in from Japan and custom-made by Anna Niponica patterned in a western mermaid style but using opulent Kimono fabric. Her bouquet was a chic cascade of white phaleonopsis Orchids, green Cymbidiums, Hydrangeas and tropical foliage. The Bridesmaids carried a stylish gold clutch filled with florals as the bouquet.

Mission Inn - Riverside

On March 8, 2008 we had the pleasure of designing a breathtaking wedding for Jill Sy (my long lost cousin according to her!) and Carlos Sengia, The venue was The Mission Inn in Riverside. The colors were Ivory, Cream, Brown and Tiffany Blue. The centerpieces was designed with drama in mind! Manzanita branches trimmed with Orchids, Candles and Hanging Crystals. The Music Room looked very romantic, dramatic and fierce! More images to follow once I get them from the photographer!

This was from Fall of 2007. Our lush table top was featured on the front cover of Ceremony Magazine! The centerpiece consists of two oblong grecian urn overflowing with Orange and Yellow Roses, Hydrangeas, Millet and Feathers. Copper Ivy vines add a touch of modern flirting above the composition.

This wedding was held at the Fabulous Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas. The bride chose Bright colored seasonal florals to stand the harsh heat that day! Vivid Fuschia Cattleya Orchids, Zebra Roses, Ruffled Parrot Tulips, Hot Pink Carnations, Lime Green Cymbidium Orchids, Sunset Mini Calla Lily's and French Tulips made up the ingredients for an eye candy floral decor!
